This is of view of the Mississippi River from my in-law's deck. Yep, looks like it's winter in Minnesota again. Pretty soon this little stream in the middle of the ice will be frozen over too, and the snow will be dotted with deer and wolf tracks.
My MIL & I baked all weekend long, and in between the mixing and the sampling I managed to squeeze in a few minutes to take pictures of the feathery visitors to the feeders just outside the dining room and kitchen.
Some were harder to capture than others.
The only way I was able to snap photos of the more skittish birds like this red-headed woodpecker and the bluejay were to aim my camera down the length of the deck while holding it right up to the glass of the patio door. Could've been better pictures, but at least I got them! Zoom is a great thing :)
Winter sure is pretty, but I'm already missing summer. It's supposed to warm up into the 20's today though - a real heat wave compared to the negative temps we've had lately!
With all the bird photos, I had to add this one too - just for a splash of green. I took it along the side of the road in the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge near my house. I made Hubby pull over so I could get this shot of a Sandhill Crane. During the summer it's not unusual to see flocks of hundreds of these in the fields and pastures.

I love these pictures, they are so beautiful. I miss living in the Midwest. The winters were always so beautiful.
Beautiful, maybe - but it's not so much fun driving through 2 feet of snow on an unplowed road on the way to church Christmas morning! When you get homesick, just think of the slippery roads. I still wouldn't trade it for anything, though :)
